The Hawkins is a multifamily community in Chamblee, GA, designed as a modern tribute to the area’s aviation and military history. Positioned beside the main runway at PDK Airport, the community features a rooftop viewing deck with commercial-grade binoculars and a telescope, giving residents a direct connection to its surroundings.
Interiors feel editorial and layered, anchored by a black-and-white palette with jewel-toned greens and warm chocolate accents. Leathers, bouclé textures, and menswear-inspired patterns reference classic pilot attire, while the art package brings the story to life. Highlights include a suspended paper airplane art piece in the lobby, thrifted and antique aviation artifacts, framed war memorabilia, sculptural airplane propellers, and contemporary art inspired by seatbelt detailing. Subtle nods to John Brown Gordon and a historical photo gallery further ground the design in place.
Amenity spaces were designed to feel immersive and memorable. A generous coworking suite includes a coffee bar, communal library tables, private offices, and tiered bleacher-style seating for both work and lounge moments. The fitness and yoga studios sit along the main corridor with direct access to outdoor deck space, while the courtyard pool is surrounded by premium residences and framed by twinkle lights, grilling areas, and evening views. The result is a bold, highly curated environment that balances heritage with modern living and delivers a truly distinctive residential experience.
